For now its looking like $75 per person should cover things...

Yep, been looking at the GFS/NAM, strong deep Low will
will sit over Gulf of Alaska starting on thursday, and
west coast will get slammed by a series of shortwave
disturbances/fronts..we should see snow on the local
hill tops around here.  Crazy strong high right 1050MB
rigt now centered over S.Idaho.

I have been watching this the last few model run since
some guys mentioned it on Storm Track.  Looks nice
indeed even though it is still 6 days away.  Moisture,
Instability and Shear all look good as of now and will
be worth keeping an eye on to see if model run to
model run stays fairly consistent.

Yeah I was curious if they would mention tornadoes or
not.  If we can get just enough instability it should
be an interesting late afternoon into the late evening
hours.  Moisture will be sufficient with really nice
shear in place, esp. the speed shear with directional
not being as good but still ok.  Supercells will
likely be the mode as storms fire off the dryling (not
a very sharp dryline) before the cold front begins to
undercut and transition into a line.  No doubt there
will be severe storms, but as far as tornadoes I guess
we will have to see.  The potential should be there
for sure, esp. if the models continue to show the
moisture and shear like it is now and CAPE can be
adequate enough.  Good thing about CAPE in winter is
you don't need much.  Bad thing is it gets dark about
a little after 5 and storms will be moving fairly
quickly probably 35-40kts.

This sort of reminds me of the October setup a few
months ago where we were both just north of OKC.  I
think that day had higher td's and instability though.
 It will be interesting to see exactly how much
moisture return there is between now and Monday.  I
know the southerly winds we have  had the last couple
days are pumping in moisture so it will be nice to see
exactly how much the dewpoints come up which will also
help instability as well.  Dewpoint in Miami now is 49
and it was just in the teens a couple of days ago. 
Mid 50 dewpoints are already showing up along the
TX/OK border.

It looks like the hot spot is going to be the NE OK / NW AR / SW MO 
area, from Miami, OK - Joplin, MO - Fayetteville, AR
maybe as far South as Ft- Smtih, AR.

The NAM ,, Siggy TOR is up to 7+ right in that spot,, If the center of 
the low will stay a littler further south say around Coffeyville, KS - 
Neodasha, KS area Extreme SE KS will have very nice upper support for 
Tornadic storms! IF they fire!

So we will just have to see the first images from my high rez models are 
starting to reach out to the Monday event, as soon as i can process the 
18z GFS data i will send out some highrez graphics.

Let me know if anyone wants to ride along, i will be out early 7 - 8 am 
cst,,  Chris let me know what you are plaining and we can meet up..

Things don't look quite as good on the 00z run of the
NAM, but things still look in place for at least
something interesting.  I would be happy with a
t-storm watch box and some t-storm warning with some
fairly healthy wind gusts, which this at least appears
very likely.  Mid 50 td's, the shear that is in place
and if we can actually get say 1,000 CAPE things will
be interesting.  Pretty much the same areas you
mentioned look good.  I would say extreme NE OK into
extreme SE KS pushing into SW MO later on looks like a
fairly good bet.  Storms should be moving fairly
quick, but not unchaseable.  I can't seem to located
the bunkers method model for prediction storm motion
and speed on the wxcaster site.  I will probably stay
locally here and monitor things before heading out say
late Monday morning.

I like the second link.  It has some really cool stuff
on it.  The experim.  page on wxcaster is good also,
esp. to look at torn. sig. paramaters.  Yeah NE at
40kts looks to be the norm in the area.

I have attached CAPE and surface temp + wind graphics from Monday 12z to 
Tuesday 0z

Also i put some screen shots from IDV.
All screenshots are 0z Tuesday (6pm cst monday)

The skew-t if drawn from the red dot on the cape map...
the data image if data fro the skew-t...

It looks to me like cape will not be to much of an issue.. the windshear 
is not even close to what i thought it would be..

Check it out and let me know what you think.

I noticed that too when I went to the wxcaster.com
site.  The area from Sallisaw along I40 in extreme
eastcentral OK into western Arkansas and NW Arkansas
has really good parameters.  SE OK and NE TX do as
well.  I will probably just stay here and see if
something good can come of anything.  Just not an
ideal chase situation down there, but it will be nice
to at least get some electric storms after dark right
close to home I guess.

It's starting to look like things may turn out for a decent chase...
temp/dewpt seem to be higher then i thought at 10z
winds in the far SE corner of OK are backed decently... the model shows the
backed winds pulling up into the region that SPC has 5% tor on...  will just
have to see

Yeah I think I am pretty much set on staying home as
well and seeing what happens here.  Probably nothing
happens here, but I have chased where the 5% is and it
isn't pretty, esp. since it gets dark just after 5pm. 
I chased SE OK one time when the sun went down at 9pm
and was on a torn. storm for about 1.5 hours and only
saw the wall cloud for about 5 minutes.  I will
monitor from home so if anybody needs anything I
should be here.  If this setup was anywhere but where
it is I would chase, but it's not.

Tyler and I got back late last night chasing over in SW Missouri, talk about a crazy event.. especially for January. We sat outside Stafford Missouri for a long time watching the storms pass by that were producing tornadoes, we came across the damage path of the tornado that went through Stafford... Congrats to Mike, Chris and everyone who got out and had a successful first chase of 2008. Tyler and I had a great chase considering the 1st chase consisted of an outbreak.

Unfortunately heard that there were 2 deaths last night, one in Stafford right by where Tyler, Chris Rice and I were at.

This was one of the first storms Tyler and I was on, this was early on when we were way north.. nothing severe or tornadic but you can see mid-level stirations on it.. pretty impressive for January.

Joey, what were you guys driving last night?  We made it through the
Strafford area at one point.  We followed that storm on to the Marshfield
area.  I'm pretty sure we were observing one on the ground north of 44, then
after we stopped at the Northview exit near Marshfield I witnessed/reported
power flashes to the north.  Unfortunately, that's the area the 2nd fatality
happened.

I was back out around 2:45am and got caught up in winds at 75 to 100 MPH as
they went through south of Springfield.  I'd prefer that not happen again.

I thought I heard net control say "Thanks Tyler" and figured some of you
guys made it over this way.

We were in Tyler's Trailblazer, Tyler chimed in on the net a few times with reports... it was insane. Right after the tornado went through Stafford we went back up there and there was powerlines down and tree's. We ended up going back south, southwest and found a great spot which gave us a great view in all directions.. even over SGF.

Mike,

Look forward to seeing your stuff.  In addition, I
will send a video as soon as I can get my stuff
together and get it uploaded on youtube.  It was on
the ground for at least 10 minutes and longer more
than likely.  As soon as it crossed the road it was
almost completely wrapped in rain, but still barely
visible.  It did damage to powerlines and trees just
south of Monett.  We got very close and one point
(much closer than the viddo) but had to get south
really quick.  We got lucky and got it right before it
got dark.  We then sat in extreme NW Arkansas near
Bentonville watching about 3-4 tornadic storms go over
basically the same area.  Saw several wall clouds and
some funnels and another possible tornado, but trees
blocked the view.

At least you saw a tornado! we practically saw every storm die on us, and on top of that got pulled over doing 91 in a 65 south of Sedalia.  Thank God I wasn't driving lol and he let us go with a warning, a very nice cop.  Last 2 chases=  pulled over twice.  I need a radar jammer.  Not to mention us passing Eric Whitehill and Beau G. on May 5th, and them getting the ticket on national TV.  

Fast moving storms means you must drive fast, whether or not anyone likes to admit to it or not.  I've head from other "veterans" that Roger Edwards and Rich Thompson blew by someone on a dirt road doing well over 90 in a minivan back in the late 90's.  Same goes with Chuck.

This was the storm that prompted TOR warnings constantly from Cherokee CO in
OK all the way through MO. My dad watched it go through Tahlequah in
Cherokee CO, and we intercercepted it North of Siloam Springs on AR59 and
saw the whole wall cloud descend just east of Decatur.




also, i will have a video capture of me looking at the tornadocanr on my
laptop, with lightning hitting 200 yards behind me. you see the tornadocane
on my screen, my face looking at it, and lightning hitting over my shoulder.
amazing.

Well, to be fair on that.......it was a desolate highway.  In the 20-30 miles they followed us from the Stafford storm, we saw 3-4 vehicles.  The 5th vehicle was a sheriff driving away from a tornadic storm 5 miles behind him with a confirmed tornado on the ground.  "Protect and Serve" didn't apply to his duties that day I guess.  Regardless, they saw the Radium tornado, and didn't miss anything.

That's what TV stations do... Given the listenership of NOAA
Weather Radio (1-2%) I don't think that is good use of their personnel.

He must feel real important covering weather in Lansing Michigan on the
weekends and chasing bow echos in the summertime in his minivan. 
I think the SGF NWS did a beyond the call of duty job last night and each deserve a week's vacation after saving many lives.

What a deal,,, We met up with Chris Rice NE of SGF and then dropped S 
right in front of a large fast moving tornado. We just about got hit.. 
we only missed the tornado by a few min.. 3 - 4,,, we went back north to 
a spot near Straford, mo and found the damage path,, just a supple of 
miles from where we were.

I've been following that as well on ST. We were listening to SGF both on their NWR broadcast and talking to spotters, I thought they did a great job as well getting information out. They were dealing with a lot last night and had a lot of information coming in..
