We didn't see any tornadoes we sure got chased by one after dark.. well we thought it was one. I chased all over SE KS, SW MO, NE OK, SE OK almost to Texas/Louisiana! We some really nice lowering and rotating wall clouds.. Got a pic of some quarter size hail that dropped on us... 2 pieces! thats is! just two hail stones! fell next to Bart and I.. We called it a night in Broken Bow, OK then drove to Ft Smith and got a room... I will try and have a detailed chase report! honestly their is nothing to report! heh! I'm really tired so this may all sound like gibberish! 2:27am Tyler. To add to it the surface winds show little to no sign of backing! A forecast sounding of the area shows 4275 j/kg CAPE, 80 Deg F / 69 Td. So 0-6km wind shear is really good 63kts and 500mb winds are strong at 61kts. It?s certainly a hard forecast. I think the tornado risk will really decreased if the lack of low level shear holds true. So my forecast.. Supercells with GIANT hail will be possible along the quasi stationary front from Wichita Falls, TX to Hot Springs, AR. Tornadoes will be possible mainly near and SE of the LOW, SE of a line extending from Wichita Falls, TX to Muskogee, OK from 21z ? 08z I would pay close attention to the Day 1 that will be out in an hour or so. Will see if they back off the tornado risk some. It still look?s like a very chaseable day I?m just not sure it?s going to be a huge tornado event. Now this could all change if we see back winds and enhanced 850mb flow. If so we will be dealing with a BEAST! It looks quite chaseable with storm motion forecast 280deg at 24kts -- Tyler -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... The fact that both surface and 850mb winds are forecasted to be weak doesn't help as well. Unless things change I will not go too far. I may lean towards the stationary front thing south and east of Tulsa towards eastcentral and SE OK. I will take a look at the RUC in the morning and go from there......if I go at all. I guess there are two areas that are very close together. The warm front/dryline intersection in NW OK or the dryline a bit further south. I guess it just depends if you think precip. will break out further south or not. Everything looks very nice, esp. the 40kt 500mb winds which have storms moving around 25kts. Surface winds back nicely in many areas and CAPE is abundant just about everywhere. I did a sounding for Watonga that showed the following: near perfect hodograph, -8 lift, -6 EHI, 100% supercell potential with plenty of 0-1 and 0-3 helicity. STP and Supercell Composites are very high as well. I got a bit burned out after that chase we had all the way south of Wichita Falls. I guess I just have a lot going on moving into my new house and all. I am actually glad the next 10 days and maybe longer look like no severe weather so I can catch my breath. The May 4th thing should be really nice. I heard you tried to get Piotrowski and that he was busy. Yes it didn't quite blow up like they thought. I worked overtime yesterday and when I got home around 3pm noticed the low topped supercells forming in KS and MO. I think I'm going to say close to home for a local SE KS / SW MO chase, NAM is showing initiation around 21z just E of KS and then on down the line. It also had an area of 4+ EHI over SE KS at 21z. It's hard to say looking at the NAM but some where around Nevada, MO or just to the W it was showing a surface vortex if the forecast holds that would be a nice spot to look for tornadoes! but for the most part tornado chances are low. With LFC / LCL's ~3000ft if an area of backed winds can develop tornadoes would become much more likely. Sorry its just a quick overview.. tired.. Tyler. SPC mentions isolated supercells with a few tornadoes after 21z along the triple point. Tomorrow doesn't look too great, but good enough to chase. I am a bit concerned about low level shear along the triple point, but with the amount of moisture and CAPE in place it will be hard to pass up. Very large hail will probably be the primary threat with a small chance for tornadoes. You will probably get this in the morning, but I just called Bart and we are planning on leaving Miami by no later than 10am and heading towards OKC. Somewhere in the TX panhandle looks good. More specifically I did a forecast sounding for Childress valid 00z and it was through the roof. 0-1 SRH of 260 and 0-3 SRH of 499. CAPE 2,300 J/kg with LI of -5 and EHI 0f 6.5. STP is near 10 and Supercell Composite of 40-50. A dryline/warm front intersection is forecasted between Lubbock and Amarillo roughly. Just thought I would mention it for people to look at. SPC has this area under a 30% slight with a mention of possible upgrade. They do mention elevated convention in the morning as a possible problem and this shows up on the latest model run of the NAM. As you know I switched to them a week ago and love it! I NEVER lost a radar update in 18 hours or driving the other day.....which includes the drive home. There was only two times where I had to disconnect and reconnect and that was it. It never failed to update radar but pages were really slow to load so I reconnected and it worked fine. I can get up to 950 down at the house so I may just use it as a primary internet at home to save money. The other day I was about 30 miles west of Fort Worth in between two small towns and got 1,200 down! Needless to say it is better than AT&T that I was using. If you are in a non EVDO network it seems to run about 120 down which is just fine for everything you need. The thing I like is not losing a connection and radar always updating. So I figured we could switch between the two, as a redundancy thing. In the last few days, I've been from Kansas City, MO to Witchita Falls, TX, then to Pratt, KS, then to Hays, and then all the way back to Kansas City, MO via 24Hwy. I did take alot of back roads. My Alltel was streaming video most of the time, no problem. The biggest problem was when changing towers, the signal had to be reconnected on the encoder, no big deal just hit the "start encoding button", but sometimes I'd forget because staying on the road was more important than running live cam, although I am experimenting with the encoder to see if I can automate process. 100% of the time I "pushed" signal to our streaming server, to prevent any IP problems. I know when "pulling" from encoder it runs flawless, but your IP changes so you have to run a NO-IP client, and you might lose a connection for a few minutes while it updates, not a big deal either. When downloading lots of satellite images, I did disco the camera, just to get images fast, and then started the camera again. I did see download speeds as fast as 1.2Mbps, near cities, but rural was an average of 400-600kbps down and 130-170kbps up. Cannot complain... I had several people write me and comment on the quality of image, and how smooth it was. As far as data in general, I did not have a single point in my chase where I could not get data from the Alltel card, that I can remember. I do have it set to "auto reconnect after disconnecting", and my biggest problem was when changing towers. Hope that helped anyone! The biggest problem was when changing towers, the signal had to be reconnected on the encoder, no big deal just hit the "start encoding button", but sometimes I'd forget because staying on the road was more important than running live cam, although I am experimenting with the encoder to see if I can automate process. 100% of the time I "pushed" signal to our streaming server, to prevent any IP problems.I know when "pulling" from encoder it runs flawless, but your IP changes so you have to run a NO-IP client, and you might lose a connection for a few minutes while it updates, not a big deal either. When downloading lots of satellite images, I did disco the camera, just to get images fast, and then started the camera again. I did see download speeds as fast as 1.2Mbps, near cities, but rural was an average of 400-600kbps down and 130-170kbps up. Cannot complain... I had several people write me and comment on the quality of image, and how smooth it was.As far as data in general, I did not have a single point in my chase where I could not get data from the Alltel card, that I can remember. I do have it set to "auto reconnect after disconnecting", and my biggest problem was when changing towers.Hope that helped anyone!Chris Ricewww.stormchaselive.com_________________________________________________________________Spell a grand slam in this game where word skill meets World Series.
