I was first contacted about a year ago and then last week one of the organizers emailed me again asking if I wanted to help out. I want to find out if anyone would be interested in helping out, and you don't necessarily have to live in or around Pittsburg to help out.. Basically at this point I'm working on getting speakers lined up, so far I've emailed Steve Runnels at SGF but haven't heard back from him yet. I talked to Doug Heady at KOAM, Doug said he can be there and can give a presentation whether it be about the media's role in providing severe weather information that day or, and most likely, a severe weather safety presentation. I'm probably going to give Eldon Bedene, the Crawford County Emergency Manager, and see if he might want to do something.. maybe talking about storm spotters, or how they prepared for the day.. I don't know, something. We plan on having a few exhibits setup as well, one containing severe weather safety information and what not, maybe have a NOAA Weather Radio on display to show how it works. One thing I'm going to try doing from now until then is get a couple NOAA Weather Radio's that can be given away, I might buy a couple and I might email Midland and see if they will donate.. they've donated in the past when I've done severe weather safety stuff at work. I would like to have a few storm chasers on hand, I think this would be a great time to show the public what we do, our role during severe weather, and what not.. so this could be something we could do and maybe show some of the equipment we use. We can use this maybe to promote MO-KAN. One thing I want to do, but not sure how to do it yet, is to build a tornado generator that can be on display. This is just a few things off the top of my head, once I get more speakers line up I should be able to get an agenda together.. If anyone has ideas, or want to help or anything let me know.
